Emerald City Boston Rockin’ Out Gametime

January 16, 2013

Music & Entertainment

This past Saturday, I found myself at the edge of Rockland at Gametime. While there was an NFL beatdown in progress with The 49ers slapping around the Packers, there was another type of throwdown in progress; that of the classic rock variety courtesy of Emerald City Boston. Emerald City Boston are a relatively new band, but the members are hardly new to music scene. Sharing guitar duties are Tom Nava and Tom Leavens. Tom Nava most recently played with Full Circle. Tom Leavens has played with Southbound and many other bands. Mike Angelo on bass has played in many bands ranging from jazz to celtic, and had the honor at one time to play with the great Carlos Santana. Rob Buttomer on drums has played with Mutha Funk as well as Sugarfoot and the Brass Kickin’ Horns. Scott Romancier on keyboards has also played with those two bands as well as his other current project; Junkyard Standard.

The music they played that night was heavily influenced by classic bluesy rock. We got great doses of Stevie Ray Vaughn and ZZ Top. Mixed in with that was familiar songs such as “Mustang Sally”, “What’s your Name” “Rock and Roll” and “Roadhouse Blues”.

Another great thing about this evening was the support of the local band community. We had Paul Sarno and Scott Hayes of Roctopus, Billy Spyke of Medicine Breath, John Cesarini of Full Circle and John Ceurvels and Paul Donovan late of Inception.

I don’t have info on when Emerald City Boston will be playing next, but I’ll be sure to update this as soon as I find out.
