Inception Rockin’ Gametime

April 16, 2012

Music & Entertainment

Before I get to my review of Inception’s gig this past Saturday at Gametime, I just wanted to make mention that RockVegas is looking to book bands for the upcoming summer months. So any bands that are looking to fill up their schedule and would like to play at RockVegas, please contact Julie at 781-347-1794. Let’s get this place booked up and help continue to make Rockland THE destination for live music entertainment.

On to this past Saturday. Right off the bat, I will say that I’m not entirely unbiased when it comes to this band. I’ve known John Ceurvels more than 20 years and Paul Donovan well, his whole life. Coming off a heartbreaking Bruins 2OT loss earlier in the day, I needed to blow off a little steam and I think I did at Gametime. Honestly, the crowd was a bit on the light side this night, but the folks who were there made up for it with their enthusiasm. One thing Inception likes to do is play loud and proud and they certainly did this night. Lead singer Dave Boyce was on his game this night and had a ton of energy which the rest of the band and the crowd drew their energy from. Drummer Mike Robinson kept a sure and steady beat as John Ceurvels and Ed Leland added their riffs on guitar. Bassist Paul Donovan played his usual thundering bass and added his vocals from time to time as did John and Ed.

They started the night off with “Fire” by Jimi Hendrix. Over the course of the night they covered such songs as “Toys in the Attic” by Aerosmith, “Play that Funky Music” by Wild Cherry, “American Girl” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and “Slither” by Velvet Revolver. They are taking the month of May off but will be returning to action June 9 at The President’s Rock Club in Quincy. For more info on the band, please visit their website; or visit them on Facebook at
