Music & Entertainment

It was a big night in Rockland as Player’s had a twin-bill with newcomers Junkyard Standard opening for Phase Four and Gametime had Eva Braun.

Junkyard Standard

We started out the night at Players curious to see this new band comprised of music veterans. Junkyard Standard is Peter Ferguson on lead guitar and vocals, Scott Romancier on keyboards and vocals, Tary Gordon on rythmn guitar and vocals, Mark Michaelson on bass and Jason Wallack on drums. Scott, Mark and Jason have played together in the past in the band “Sugarfoot” In addition, Jason has played with Phase Four members Thom Knight and Tony Rossi in Brother Spyke and Turbulance respectively. This was Junkyard Standard’s first gig out and they nailed it. Peter’s powerful vocals and smooth guitar made the crowd sit up and take notice right off the bat with Pink Floyd’s “Have a Cigar”. From there they went on to playing great songs ranging from “Seven Spanish Angels” by Willie Nelson to “Bodhisattva” by Steely Dan. These guys were very tight, and I’m hoping to have a chance to see them again in the near future. I couldn’t find a website for them for more info, but as soon as I get one, I’ll pass it along.

Phase Four

Next up was Phase Four. They didn’t waste any time, ripping into “Shakin’ the Blues” by The Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies. Phase Four is Paul Diggin on vocals, Thom Knight on guitar, Tony Rossi on bass and Mike Fopiano on drums. These guys have been one of the areas best kept secrets for a little over a year now, but I’m hoping that changes. They are a strong quartet that is always on thier “A” game. Paul’s spot on vocals are perfectly complimented by the driving sounds coming from Thom and Tony, and Mike is the backbone that has made the band complete. They cover groups from Stone Temple Pilots to Bad Company and even some Marvin Gaye. They will be returning to Player’s Saturday, August 20th. They are definitely worth checking out. You can find them on Facebook under Phase Four or at thier own website

Next, it was on to Gametime to catch the tail end of the Eva Braun gig. As soon as I walked in the door, I could feel the power coming from the rear of the building. I was told on the way in that these guys were kicking some butt tonight and I couldn’t disagree. For me, one of the highlights was old-time ZZ top songs ” Waiting for the Bus” and Jesus Just Left Chicago”. I’ve linked it above. Eva blew the roof of the place with ”Lord of the Thighs” by Aerosmith and one of my personal favorites they do; Molly Hatchet’s “Dreams I’m Never Gonna See”.  Graham, Chev and Chico were hitting on all cylinders and it was a great way to finish off a fun evening. Eva Braun returns to action Friday night, August 5th at the Venus III in Hanson. For more info on Eva Braun, please check them out on Facebook under Eva Braun or go to
