The Alumni rock the City of Presidents

I had an unusual Friday off this weekend, so I decided to see a band I hadn’t checked out in a few months; The Alumni. This was my first time going to The President’s Rock Club in Quincy. This venue is probably best known as being Bad Abbotts in the past. It’s a nice place to see a show and would recommend any band who hasn’t been there to check it out.

One thing I like to see when I go and see a band is if they play some songs that other area bands may not play. I am beginning to see this more and more recently from all the bands I’ve had the pleasure of seeing. While The Alumni do play a few songs many other bands are covering like “Surrender” by Cheap Trick, “Interstate Love Song” by Stone Temple Pilots and “Gimmie Three Steps” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, there are many more songs on their set list that are not on other band’s lists. “Forever Man” by Eric Clapton is one my personal favorites they do. Lead singer Ben Sorenson nails the vocals and Ernie Santora on guitar plays a great, soulful solo on this tune. Other songs I can’t remember other bands covering that they do very well are “Rock this Town” by The Stray Cats and “Black Magic Woman” by Santana.

The Alumni are band who has a rockin’ set list that is executed spot-on. The Alumni are Ben Sorenson on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Ernie Santora on guitar, Tom Rankin on bass and¬†Kenny Isaacs on drums.¬† They return to action on Saturday, June 23 at All Seasons Sports Bar in Halifax. for more info, check them out here on Facebook.
