The Rockland Rock Band Scene

Music & Entertainment

My name is John Donovan. Some of you who have been to rock band gigs either in Rockland or the surrounding towns may have seen me. I’m the guy running around with the Nikon and Panasonic cameras recording all the action and posting it on Facebook and YouTube. I’ve been going to gigs for the better part of the last 20 years, starting with a band my younger brother, Paul, was in called “Too Loose”. I had a lot of fun then, but now I’ve found myself more involved. It started with me doing my thing for a band my brother was in, and from there I started showing up at other bands’ gigs whom I had known one way or another. It’s kinda snowballed in the last year or so, and I’m having lots of fun doing it.

A few months ago, I was approached by Brian White, who had seen some of my stuff and thought I’d be a good fit as a reviewer for this site. I wasn’t sure at first, thinking that it may take some of the fun out of it, feeling like I was “obligated” to show up at a gig instead of going because I enjoyed going. However, I began to seeĀ it as more of a challenge than a task; and if I can do anything else to help promote these fine bands, then I’m all for it.

I think we have a vibrant and talented local band scene and I feel fortunate to be able to help promote awareness of this fun and enjoyable scene. I’m looking forward to being a contributor to this site.
