GAME 15– JUNE 29, 2011

Plymouth Post 40 arrived in Rockland Veterans Memorial Stadium to play Rockland Post 147 after coming off a successful High School run to theState Championship. Plymouth kept the basic high school team intact, with the hope of making a solid run at the Legion playoffs. Post 40 hopped on Rockland starter Sean Roche in the first inning for one run and three quick hits. Roche settled down for the next four innings allowing only four more hits and one more earned run. Rockland answered back in the first inning with with singles by Chris Donovan and Brody Loughlin and walks to Kevin Crane and Matt Nicholson, producing two runs. Post 147 continued to hit the Plymouth starter Tom Faucett with four hits in the third inning and three hits in the fourth inning, adding two more runs to the lead through the four innings. Plymouth did their part to spoil Rocklands success, by capitalizing on two errors in the sixth inning to tie the game. Rockland closer Joe Lennon came in to pitch in the top off the sixth and held Plymouth, after Post 147 intentionally loaded the bases, to keep the bat out of Post 40′s dangerous hitter Matt Walsh. Rockland did nothing in the bottom of the sixth, so Lennon had to hold Plymouth again in the top of the seventh inning. In the home half of the seventh Kevin Crane led off with a double, John Mulready moved him over to third with a hard hit ball back to the pitcher, forcing Faucett to throw to first for the out. Plymouth decided to intentionally walk Brody Loughlin and Kevin Quinlan to load the bases and force outs. Rockland countered the move by pinch hitting Steve Gardner for Scott Stohlberg and that move paid off. Gardner hit a line drive deep to center, over the drawn in Plymouth outfield, for the walk off hit to win the game.

On The Positive;Joe Lennon was the winning pitcher, Sean Roche allowed only 2 runs on 7 hits. Brody Loughlin went 3 for 3, Chris Donovan went 2 for 3, Steve Gardner went 1 for 1 with the game winner, and Rockland out hit the opponent again with 14 hits. Only 3 players were missing !!
