June 8, 2013

Welcome to the 2013 Season for the American Legion Post 147 Rockland Raiders Baseball Team.   This year’s team consists of 18 Players from Rockland, Abington, and Norwell.  Their first game is Monday June 10 at Rockland Stadium, at 7pm.   In the interest of space, I will not list their names here, and would instead like to direct our readers to take the time and check out the Roster at

There have been some changes within the Organization this season, most notably, within the Coaching Staff, with long time Manager/Head Coach, Thom Roache, who will continue as the General Manager, retiring from the Head Coaching Duties, following a very successful 2012 Campaign that saw the Post 147 Raiders reach the South Sectionals for the 1st time in 32 years, after posting an impressive 12 win 10 loss regular season, as the 7th seed, and beating  2nd seeded Wareham Post 220 Gatekeepers to get there.  The Post 147 Raiders final record for 2012 was 15-13.  Coach Roache was also runner-up for Coach of the Year Honors for District 10.  Thank you Thom,  your efforts since reestablishing American Legion Baseball in Rockland,  have enabled Rockland Teenagers and those from neighboring towns to not only continue to enjoy the opportunity to play baseball, at a high level, but in many cases, to further their dreams and aspirations at the College Level.  This author, amongst many local fans, is thrilled that you had the opportunity to step back, after leading the Raiders to a level of success that had not been realized in Decades.  Great Job, and Congratulations!!!

The coaching changes for 2013 do have a ring of familiarity, with 2012 Assistant/3rd Base Coach, Mike Loughlin assuming the Manager/Head Coaching Duties. His son, and former Raiders Alumni Jesse Loughlin (Bowdoin College, Pitcher) and 2012 Raiders Pitching Coach will be continuing those duties again this year as an Assistant Coach, and Adam Worrell (Bates College, 4 yr player), who has been helping out at the Jake Hayden/RALB Winter Camp, will also be an Assistant Coach.  Joe Reis is returning as the long time Hitting Coach, and is credited with helping the Rockland Raiders Lineup be amongst the top District 10 Teams in Batting Average in recent years, as well as Co-Director of Rockland Athletic Baseball Club, (RALB), and the reestablishment of Rockland American Legion Baseball.  Tim Cullinan returns as the Official Scorekeeper for the Post 147 Raiders.

Best of Luck in the 2013 Season, to the Rockland Raiders, and also to the Rockland JR American Legion Rockland Eagles, led by Manager Mike Garner, and Assistant Coach Rich Bernache,  as well as the Rockland Cardinals of the Cranberry League

On a related note, Rockland Stadium will be the Host Site for the 2013 American Legion Massachusetts South Sectional Tournament, consisting of those Playoff Teams advancing from Districts 6, 9, & 10, from July 28-31st.  This should be a small boon for the Rockland Locale, and ideally will be a regular occurrence, with the help and support of all Rockland Area Baseball Fans.  Please, save the Date(s), and keep your fingers crossed, for the Rockland Raiders to represent District 10

Please be sure and check out the Website for the history, as well as, Schedules, Game Stories, and related information for Rockland Legion/Amateur Baseball
