JUNE 15, 2012 (Friday night)
GAME 4
ROCKLAND POST 147 = 4
WHITMAN POST 22 === 0
Rockland Post 147 and Whitman Post 22 squared off at Rockland Veterans Memorial Stadium, and as usual the contest was tight over the first two innings. Whitman and Rockland play a couple of times a year and the games are most times close, and decided on defense more than offense. This game was no exception. Whitman pitching kept Post 147 hitters off balance all night, but the Rockland Raiders caught a break in the third inning on a couple of Post 22 errors, and were able to score four runs. That however was not the story of the night. Brody Loughlin, the Rockland starter, also became the the Rockland finisher. Loughlin, behind some solid defense, was in the quiet, don’t say those words, process of spinning a “No Hitter”. Brody pitched a solid game getting six(6) strike outs, walking only one batter, hitting one batter, getting 2 fly outs, and thirteen (13) ground outs over the seven inning game. Rockland’s defense was very tight as the game progressed, including a defense gem and virtual no hit saving play by shortstop Sean Roche for the second out of the seventh inning.
On The Positive; Brody Loughlin pitches Rockland Post 147 it’s first no hitter since coming back to American Legion baseball in 2003. John Mulready and Brody Loughlin both went 2 for 3 at the plate, and the Rockland defense had no errors in their 15 put outs.
