Rockland Post 147 hosted Marshfield Legion Post 88 at

Magoun Field in Pembroke on Sunday October 23.

The Marshfield squad was a solid team with plenty of

pitching, which is a key to Legion Baseball and winning.

Marshfield pitching kept Rockland scoreless for six  innings,

while Rockland pitching allowed ten runs over five innings.

Post 147 got to Post 88 pitching in the sixth and seventh

innings and managed to score five times, but Marshfield

stopped the bleeding in  the eighth and ninth innings to

keep their lead and secure their win. Rockland pitching

did better than the score showed, with six Marshfield

runs coming off Post 147 sloppy lackadaisical play, and

mental mistakes. Tom Clarkson (Thayer) pitched three

innings, striking out 6, with 4 runs, Brian Cohen went

three innings, striking out 4, with 6 runs scored for a

myriad of reasons. Dan Gatley pitched two innings and

allowed no runs, with 5 strike outs, and both PJ McDonald

and JT Turner pitched an inning each with no runs, but

The lead by Post 88 was never really in jeopardy.

Rockland had 7 hits, singles by O’Donovan, O’Brien, and

Harkin, and two doubles by Brian Cohen, one double by

Tom Clarkson, and one double by Sean Donovan.

Legion  Fall Ball is a learning experience and an eye opening

introduction to Legion level baseball, and Rockland is

getting it’s money’s worth
