100 Trees Fresh Cut on Walgreens Property

December 11, 2012

One hundred pine trees were cut and removed one by one from Walgreens Parking lot this past week end. The trees were rare beautiful Balsam Firs ranging in height from four feet to nine feet tall. Each tree had been perfectly groomed and pruned for nearly five years before being cut down to the stumps, tied in nylon nets and shipped off to the Rockland Lions Club.  And everyone was happy about it.

The Club That  Has No Fun concluded their 2012 fundraising efforts with a very successful Christmas tree sale. The club sold out of the ninety trees available and gave away the other ten.  Many of the trees were hand delivered by Lions Club members. The Lions also provided refreshments  for their customers including their now famous Lion Hot Chocolate.

King Lion Jay Leahy had this to say about the event. (paraphrase)   The Rockland Lions Club would like to thank each and every one who comes out all year to support the club.  Especially Melony, the manager at Rockland Walgreens.  The love and support we get from the people of Rockland is overwhelming.  The meat raffles, White Cane Day, the Easter Brunch, the plant sale , the Ride for Sight motorcycle run, Barretts Haunted Mansion, The Christmas Stroll, the Breakfast with Santa and the Tree Sale are all supported by thousands of townspeople; and we couldn’t do any of it without them. The Rockland Lions Club has given nearly $100,000.00 to date to Mass Eye Research in the fight against blindness.

King Lion Jay also invites anyone who would like to join the Rockland Lions Club to come to the upper hall of the Knights of Columbus this Wednesday night and see why we are called  The Club That Has No Fun.
