Another Former Athlete of the Year Goes Pro!

August 15, 2014

Finally of age!

For years Bobby Gasdia has been training with men much bigger and older than him.  Working out in a cage helping them prepare for their up-coming fights.  Taking pride in being part of the ‘fight team’ even though he could not compete himself due to age requirements.  In the mean time, he honed his competitive skills by entering grappling tournaments all over New England collecting a room full of impressive championship swords and belts.  In his sophomore year of high school he took up the closest thing to grappling that school offered  and joined the Rockland High Wrestling team .  Here he served two years as a captain qualifying and competing in tournaments at the local, State and All State championship levels.  In his entire regular season wresting career, NONE of his matches ever went to points.  Close to all of them ended with an authoritative pin by Bobby.  Even in his few loses the matches were always a show not to be missed.

On Saturday August 23rd Bobby intends to bring that same excitement to the Plymouth Memorial Hall where he will finally be stepping into the cage officially for the first time to begin his MMA fighting career.  His opponent is a very tough 25 yr old fighter from New Hampshire whose stand up10458801_680736035308257_9054167545190847611_n 10313017_10204120712525655_6281277242437828914_n and wrestling skills are not to be overlooked.

Putting in the work… Bobby is very confident in a win because he “knows he is training and fighting on a daily basis with guys  much better than his opponent”.

This has been a goal since he was 11 years old that he will finally be achieving.  The following week on Aug 30 he will be leaving to live and attend at Bridgewater State University studying criminal justice where he will also be a member of their wrestling team.

There are at least 3 other SSSF (South Shore Sports Fighting) fighters on the Cage Titans XX card on the 23rd.  The main event for the night is another Rockland stand-out wrestler who won the State Championship for the high school in ALL FOUR years he competed!!  Not sure how many times that has ever been done but you can be sure it’s pretty freakin rare!  Frank Sforza is the current Cage Titans champion fighting at 150 lbs and has held that title since 2011.

Memorial Hall is located walking distance from the Plymouth pier at 83 Court St and is the best venue in New England to view fights.  There is not a bad seat in the house.
