Rockland American Legion Baseball

Rockland American Legion Baseball announces a
change in the Senior Legion coaching staff. Manager
Thom Roache, will be stepping down from the manager/ head
coach position in 2013, and will remain as the General
Manager of the Rockland Legion programs. The new
Head Coach/Manager will be 2012 Assistant Coach
Mike Loughlin, from Rockland. Loughlin brings a wealth of
baseball knowledge to the Legion program. He has coached
in Rockland Little League, in the Junior and Senior programs,
and in the whole Little League program for over 7 years, he has been Assistant Coach at South Shore Christian Academy for 5 years, and has coached as assistant and trainer in Rockland Legion Sr. Baseball with Coach Roache since 2011. According to Roache “The program is in good hands with Mike and the transition will be seamless”.  Loughlin will be assisted by Adam Worrall.  Adam, a former Duxbury High School player and team captain, also played  Duxbury American Legion Baseball. He is a 2006 graduate of Bates College, in Lewiston ME.  Adam was a 4 year starter at third base for Bates, and was a Captain for the Bobcats during his Senior year.  Bates College competes in the NESCAC.
The second assistant in the program will be Mike’s son Jesse Loughlin. Jesse is a former four year starter, two year captain for South Shore Christian Academy. He also played Rockland American Legion Baseball and is a junior at Bowdoin College,Brunswick ME., where he is in his third season as a pitcher for the Bowdoin Polar Bears. Bowdoin College competes in the NESCAC.  The addition of these talented college players, combined with Coach Loughlins’ knowledge of baseball, should be significant for the Post 147 “Raiders” program.
As for mentioned, Coach Roache retires from the field after coaching for 10 years at the Legion level, after bringing his 2008 team to the Zone playoffs for the first time since last accomplished by Myles Angeley in 1978, and more recently the 2012 team to the Zone 10 playoffs, as a number 7 seed and defeating Wareham the number 2 seed, and moving to the South Sectional Legion playoffs, for the first time since 1978. Roache will also remain as the District 10 Junior Legion Chairman, chairing the ever expanding and improving Junior Legion District 10 program. The Rockland Senior Legion and Junior Legion teams, plus the Cranberry League Rockland Cardinals all fall under the umbrella of the Rockland Athletic Club.
The President of the Rockland Athletic Club, Joe Reis, approves the 2013 teams staffing and agrees with GM Roache that ” the teams are moving in a positive direction”. The Rockland Junior Legion Head Coach will remain Mike Garner, and the Rockland Cardinal Head Coach will remain, John Colitti
