Dan Heary Reports from Belmont,( New photos from Mike Lizzi).

d3The horse that was an automatic throw-out won the 145th Belmont Stakes on Saturday in Queens, NY.  #12 Palace Malice with Mike Smith in the “irons” who had one previous victory and on the very low end in earnings romped home in a mediocre time of 2:30.3 for the grueling 1 1/2 miles.

In shooting my 30 plus triple crown races at “Big Sandy”, I found it different that there was NO real race set up except OXBOW [winner of the Preakness] ran second the entire way.  The fractions were good up until the mile [1:36.2] but after that the last half mile came back at 54 seconds on a FAST track [no moisture].  The third spot went to ORB your Derby winner.
Congrats if one found an angle in this victory-”box cars”, love Mike Smith, drew a # out of a hat for your $29.60 win on a $2 bet.  Even better if you had 12-7-5 for your trifecta of $931, and toss in the #6 [12-7-5-6] and your superfecta made me your best buddy at $20,602.
Three “Jewel” races, three different winners.  Who will be three year old horse of the year ?.  Only the Traver’s in Sarartoga Springs will tell, that is unless another horse wins.
