Heary and Lizzi Report from the Pocono’s

October 28, 2013

LIZ_2883_Foiled_Again (1) Well nothing beats a good fall ride to the Pocono’s in Eastern Pa. and a night of harness racing with a total of $6 million in purse money.  Yours truly and good friend Mike Lizzi [Yonker's track photographer] met that wonderful Saturday afternoon off rte. 81 in Wilkes-Barre and set the cameras for their night of capturing winners.
BUT at 6:00 pm a re-set of the SLR’s was in dire order.  Mike and I noticed an increase in wind, moisture from above and a an unkind chill invaded the area, for good.  The best trainers, drivers, and horses in the world were present for the “sloppy” night of GREAT racing that was about to take place.
The night at Mohegan Sun Pocono Downs had 12 stakes races, I shall give you 3 that really stood out.  The one that is simply an eye opener was the $500,000 one mile “Open Pace”.  This classic was won by 9 year old [ YES 9] Foiled Again by a nose in 1:49.2 on the 5/8 of a mile oval with Yannick Gingras in the bike.  He is the richest Standardbred in history with $5.65 million in earnings.
DSC_0312In the 3 year old “Filly Pace” The “Bionic Man” Tim Tetrick pulled I Luv The Nightlife out of the pocket and made him 12 for 12 in the $500,000 mile in 1:50.0.  This gave the “Nightlife” connections $2 million in lifetime earnings as he won by 3 3/4 lengths.
And finally, Bee A Magician was just that on this night.  She maintained her #1 world ranking winning the 3 year old “Filly Trot” driven to victory by Brian Sears.  This young filly is now 15 for 15 in 2013 as she went off another 1-9 favorite earning more than $2 million in her brief career.
BONUS horse-I can not leave out Captaintreacherous.  In the 3 year old “Colt and Geldings” the Captain made the mile nearly a sprint as three horses battled throughout to the wire.  The Tony Alganatrained pacer posted a 1:49.2 and is now 12 for 13 in 2013 with $2 million in earnings for the connections.
