RPD and Rockland Resident capture hand grenade robber!

The Rockland Police would like to announce that an arrest has been made in conjunction with the robbery of the Tedeschi Food Shops at 268 Union St., which occurred on 9/28/2012.
Acting on an anonymous tip, the Rockland Police Detective Division began surveillance in the area of 15 Pacific St. during the early morning hours of 10/2/2012. The surveillance resulted in the arrest of 49-year-old Mark Whittles of 157 Mattakeeset St. in Pembroke.
As a result of the investigation and subsequent search of 15 Pacific St.,  the hand grenade believed to be involved in the incident was recovered.
Mark Whittles is being charged with Armed Robbery, Possession of Explosive Device and Threats Concerning the location of Dangerous Items. He was transported to Hingham District Court where he awaits arraignment.
The Rockland Police Department would like to credit the public with supplying information necessary to bring resolution to this case.
