NEW CITY, NY — County Executive Ed Day and Probation Director Joseph DiCarlo are pleased to announce Rockland County’s celebration of Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week (PPPS Week) from July 21 to July 27. This campaign recognizes the essential work of community corrections professionals who help maintain community safety by overseeing individuals convicted of crimes outside of jail or prison.
Community corrections encompass probation, correctional supervision within the community, parole, and pretrial services. These services are administered by agencies or courts with the legal authority to enforce sanctions, offering an alternative to incarceration.
The Rockland County Probation Department is dedicated to offender accountability, community protection, offender rehabilitation, and family preservation. The department’s services include:
- Preparation of Pre-sentence, Pre-disposition, and Custody Investigations: Essential assessments to inform court decisions.
- Preparation of Civil Petitions: Handling matters of custody, visitation, and family offenses.
- Court-Ordered Supervision: Providing oversight to adult offenders and juveniles identified as juvenile delinquents.
- Diversion Services: Assisting children and families to avoid court involvement and detention.
In Rockland County, nearly 50 dedicated professionals perform these crucial functions, driving positive change through appropriate supervision and services. The probation department plays a key role in intervening in the lives of victims, juveniles, and adults under supervision. By offering effective interventions and programming, they address negative behaviors and foster positive, productive actions, aiming to reduce recidivism.
“Our probation department is integral to our community’s safety and rehabilitation efforts,” said County Executive Ed Day. “Their work ensures that individuals receive the support and supervision they need to become productive members of society.”
PPPS Week is an opportunity to appreciate the significant impact community corrections professionals have on enhancing public safety and supporting offender rehabilitation.
