Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced today that Robert Muntz, 42 of Stony Point, has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree (Felony) and one count of Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the third degree (Felony) following an investigation by the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force.
A “ghost gun” is an unserialized and untraceable firearm that can be purchased and assembled at home. They are often sold in kits, which include all the equipment necessary to build a functioning weapon. I
n October of 2022, Robert Muntz was in possession of a 9mm pistol, which contained no serial number that he sold to an agent of the Rockland County Drug Task Force. The defendant is not a registered firearms dealer and is not authorized to sell the pistol.
District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said, “Day and night, members of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force are out in the community working tirelessly to identify and arrest individuals selling drugs and guns. My office is dedicated to holding any individual accountable for their actions that endanger the residents of Rockland County. I would like to thank the Haverstraw Police Department and the DEA Group D43 for their assistance in this investigation.”
Robert Muntz was arraigned by Judge Ivonne Santos in the Town of Haverstraw Justice Court on January 23, 2022. His next court appearance will be February 9, 2023.
It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
