New City, NY – This August, Rockland County will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week with a fun-filled and educational event that brings families together to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding. On Friday, August 1st, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the annual “Live, Love, Latch! BYO Basket Picnic” will take place at Haverstraw Bay Park, offering a community-driven opportunity for families to learn, connect, and share experiences.
Co-hosted by the Rockland County Lactation Coalition and key partners including the Rockland County Department of Health, La Leche League of Rockland County, The New York Milk Bank, Lower Hudson Valley Perinatal Network, and Montefiore Nyack Hospital, the event is designed to promote the benefits of lactation and human milk feeding.
The picnic is open to all and invites attendees to bring their own lunch while enjoying a variety of fun activities, including gentle movement sessions, trivia games, gift giveaways, and a free raffle. Educational materials will also be provided, shedding light on the nutritional and developmental advantages of breastfeeding for infants.
“This event is more than just a celebration; it’s a time for families to come together and learn about the vital benefits of human milk feeding,” said Rockland County Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Leahy. “Human milk is uniquely tailored to meet an infant’s nutritional needs and helps protect against illnesses and long-term health conditions.”
In addition to the festivities, the event offers a chance for community members to learn how they can support lactating individuals. The Rockland County Department of Health provides free services to local businesses and organizations, including lactation training for staff, assistance with setting up lactation rooms, and educational resources about labor and civil rights protections for lactating individuals.
This family-friendly event promises to be a great opportunity for fun and learning, with plenty of support and resources for those interested in breastfeeding or looking to support lactating individuals.
