Village of Nyack Mayor Joe Rand, who has been campaigning to become Senator for New York State District 38, has received new endorsements from dozens of elected officials across Rockland County, according to an endorsement announcement reported by Monsey Scoop.
Prominent names backing Rand include State Senator Pete Harckham, Assemblymembers Pat Carroll and Aron Wieder, Rockland County Legislature Chairman Jay Hood, Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht and Haverstraw Supervisor Howard T. Phillips. While many endorsements are along party lines, the list counteracts a recent endorsement list recently provided by incumbent Bill Weber’s campaign several days ago.
The endorsement list also includes county legislators, town council members, village mayors and trustees, and four members of the East Ramapo Board of Education. Officials from Spring Valley, Pomona, New Hempstead, Chestnut Ridge, Wesley Hills, Grandview, Haverstraw, Nyack, Piermont, Suffern, Airmont, Upper Nyack and West Haverstraw are among those named.

The endorsements come as incumbent Bill Weber faces calls to debate Rand. Rockland News and Rockland Daily have publicly advocated for a moderated debate. Rockland Daily reported October 12 that Weber’s campaign could not accommodate its proposed October 20 date and that an alternative had been offered. Rand’s campaign indicated it would accommodate a new date, time and location.
Since then, Rockland News has secured a new date: October 26th at Fieldstone Middle School – the day early voting begins.
