Lake Nanuet Inclusive Playground Project Begins

October 21, 2026  •  By Lara Seymour

New City, NY – The Town of Clarkstown has begun construction on a new 10,000-square-foot, all-inclusive playground at Lake Nanuet, expanding recreational facilities for children and families with different physical abilities and accessibility needs.

Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann and members of the Town Board attended a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, marking the beginning of the project. Other elected officials and local residents also participated in the event.

The new playground will include accessible play equipment designed to accommodate children and families of varying abilities. The project is intended to provide an outdoor recreational area where children with different mobility and developmental needs can participate in playground activities.

According to town officials, the playground is part of Clarkstown’s ongoing program to maintain, renovate and expand public recreational facilities throughout the municipality.

The Town Board previously approved a resolution authorizing the advertisement of bids for the Lake Nanuet All Inclusive Playground project. That resolution, No. 296-2026, was adopted unanimously on May 19, 2026, with all five Town Board members voting in favor.

The resolution authorized the town’s purchasing department to seek bids for the project, allowing contractors to submit proposals for the planned recreational improvements.

The groundbreaking represents the next stage of the playground development following the town’s earlier authorization to solicit construction bids.

Lake Nanuet is among several recreational properties that Clarkstown has upgraded or expanded in recent years. Over the past five years, the town has renovated existing playgrounds and developed new facilities in several communities.

Those projects include improvements at Congers Lake, West Nyack Hamlet Green and Councilman Mark Woods at Zukor Park. The town also recently began construction on a separate playground project in Central Nyack.

The Central Nyack project, located at 49 Waldron Avenue near the Central Nyack Community Center, will include a playground and splash pad. The development is intended to expand recreational options for residents of that hamlet.

In addition to playground construction, Clarkstown has undertaken improvements to athletic facilities throughout the town.

New synthetic turf soccer and multipurpose fields have been developed at Zukor Park and Germonds Park. The town has also installed turf baseball and softball fields at Zukor, Germonds and Lake Nanuet.

Additional recreational projects have included new pickleball courts, a community garden in Central Nyack and new exercise equipment at town community centers.

Clarkstown has also conducted maintenance and improvements involving municipal recreational buildings and swimming pool infrastructure.

These projects cover several types of recreational facilities, including playgrounds, athletic fields, courts, community gardens and indoor recreation spaces.

The Lake Nanuet project differs from some of the town’s other recreational improvements because its stated purpose specifically includes providing accessible playground equipment for children and families of all abilities.

Supervisor Hoehmann said the new playground will expand opportunities for families using the town’s parks.

“I am delighted to announce this new playground at Lake Nanuet, which will provide a place for families and children of all abilities to gather and make memories,” Hoehmann said.

He also described Lake Nanuet as an important part of Clarkstown’s municipal park system and said the project would enhance existing recreational facilities.

The construction announcement did not identify the project’s total cost, the contractor responsible for construction or a scheduled completion date.

Town officials have also not announced a specific date when the playground will open to the public.

The new facility will become part of Clarkstown’s public recreation system once construction is completed, adding another accessible outdoor play area for families throughout the town.
