PIERMONT, NY – As a seasoned restaurant reviewer, I have traversed the culinary landscape of Rockland County for the past 25 years.
I’ve explored the finest eateries, and the worst establishments that should go out of business.. For many years, I did not say anything even in the poorly run locations, and even still in many cases gave generous tips – because often it is not the fault of the help, but the management. Conversely, the establishments with the best-run management (and a top notch head chef) will take a good location, and turn it into a legendary location.

For this weekend, I have for you three unique offerings that I have visited since the beginning of October. Among the plethora of choices, Mariana Mexican Restaurant, The Piermont, and Hudson’s Mill Tavern emerge as safe bets – quality decor, excellent service, and of course good food. Whether it’s the excellent drinks menu at Mariana, the live music scene at The Piermont, or the sports-driven atmosphere at Hudson’s Mill, these establishments present some great places to add to your phone contacts. Just make sure you always check the Google Reviews for each, to make your own educated choices.
The Turning Point Cafe, has a rich history of embracing live music since its inception in 1976. Local musicians initially graced its space, later transitioning to featuring nationally recognized acts, showcasing a vast array of talents over the decades. Through their partnership with the upstairs restaurant Tequila Sal y Limon, they are able to serve food prior to the many quality music performances at the location. get there early to enjoy the cuisine!
The Turning Point’s main focus on live music shines through, especially with recent performances by emerging local bands like the emerging tribute band Live and Unplugged. This commitment not only enriches the local music scene but also provides an engaging, vibrant atmosphere for patrons, making both the Point and the Tequila a notable venue for live music enthusiasts.
Mariana Mexican Restaurant prides itself on its authentic Mexican cuisine and friendly ambiance, accentuated by their excellent drinks menu. Their bartenders offer a wonderful selection of beer, cocktails, and premium liquor, including their famous Margaritas and Sangria, ensuring a delightful dining experience. Additionally, the attentive staff contributes to the positive atmosphere, making a visit to this restaurant memorable.
Hudson’s Mill Tavern presents a warm, community-centric atmosphere, almost a step from historical essence of Garner Arts Center, into a more contemporary and refined craft beer setting. With a menu curated by Chef Jimmy, focusing on high-quality food paired with craft beers and delightful cocktails, the establishment aims to offer a gathering spot for locals from the North Rockland Community. Check out the $1 wings on sports nights such as Sunday night football.
One important thing to note: The service is sometimes a bit unfocused, and you might not get attention for 10-15 minutes, if you don’t clearly speak up to the wait staff when you want something. They don’t check in on you too often, so make sure you motion to them and ensure that you are expecting them to come to your table. That said, the food, drink and ambiance are all still very good.
