Ramapo, NY — The Ramapo Police Department, in collaboration with Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services, is reminding residents of the crucial importance of calling 911 at the first sign of any fire or gas emergency. Whether it’s smoke, fire, an unusual burning odor, or the smell of gas, immediate action can make all the difference in preventing disaster and ensuring swift response.
Calling 911 activates the Rockland County Emergency Services System, mobilizing skilled personnel, equipment, and fire apparatus to respond quickly and efficiently. This rapid response is key to managing and controlling dangerous situations, protecting lives and property across the community.
Gas leaks pose a unique and serious hazard, not only to those nearby but to anyone in the surrounding area. If you detect the smell of gas, the safest step is to call 911 without delay. Ramapo’s fire departments, alongside Orange and Rockland Utilities, are trained and prepared to respond to gas emergencies, minimizing risks and ensuring public safety.
“Your safety is our top priority,” said a representative from the Ramapo Police Department. “Don’t hesitate to use 911—it’s there to protect you and your loved ones during emergencies.”
The Ramapo Police Department and Rockland County Government encourage residents to remember that 911 is a critical resource available to everyone. In any fire or gas emergency, don’t wait—make the call.
