DA Tom Walsh and Haverstraw PD Host Gun Buyback Event on June 7

HAVERSTRAW, NY — In a continued effort to promote public safety and reduce gun violence, Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh, in partnership with the Town of Haverstraw Police Department, will host a community gun buyback event on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Village Hall, 40 New Main Street.

Participants may anonymously surrender firearms in exchange for pre-paid gift cards:

  • $500 for operable assault rifles
  • $250 for operable handguns
  • $75 for rifles or shotguns
  • $25 for non-operable, replica, antique, homemade, or 3D-printed guns

Guns must be unloaded, placed in paper or plastic bags, and left in vehicle trunks for collection by law enforcement. There is no limit to the number of guns an individual can turn in, with the exception that all homemade or 3D-printed guns will receive a maximum of $25 total. The program excludes active or retired law enforcement officers and licensed gun dealers.

“This initiative is a meaningful step in reducing firearm-related tragedies,” said DA Walsh. “Every gun surrendered is one less opportunity for harm in our community.”

Towns and Villages Across Rockland Converting to .Gov Website Domains

MONTEBELLO, NY — The Village of Montebello is making a significant step forward in digital modernization by transitioning its official web and email domain from villageofmontebello.com to montebellony.gov.

This switch reflects several domain changes by local villages and governments, over the past several months. The Town of Stony Point recently changed its website to StonyPointNY.gov, with the assistance of Rockland Web Design, as well as VJ Networks.

The switch to a .gov domain has been a push by New York State for several years. The switch typically not only bolsters the Village’s credibility—since such domains are restricted to verified government entities—but also strengthens cybersecurity protections for residents and partners, minimizing risks from phishing and spoofing.

Residents are encouraged to update their bookmarks and email contacts. Typically, both domains will remain accessible during the transition period, with ongoing updates to ensure a seamless experience. In the case of Montebello, officials thanked the community for their support as the Village embraces this secure and modern digital identity.
