Child Injured in Spring Valley Traffic Accident

July 24, 2026  •  By Thomas Ossa

Spring Valley, N.Y. — A 5-year-old girl was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Hoyt Street and West Street in Spring Valley, according to emergency responders.

The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. Emergency calls initially indicated that the child was unresponsive, prompting a rapid response from Hatzoloh EMS and the Spring Valley Police Department. Emergency personnel treated the girl at the scene before she regained responsiveness.

The child was then transported to Westchester Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the extent of her injuries or her current condition.

Police secured the intersection while first responders assisted the victim and began gathering information about the circumstances surrounding the collision. As of Friday, investigators had not released details about the driver involved, whether any charges are being considered, or what factors may have contributed to the incident.

Traffic accidents involving pedestrians, particularly children, often require investigators to examine multiple factors, including roadway conditions, visibility, vehicle speed, witness statements, and any available surveillance or dashboard camera footage. Officials have not indicated whether any of those elements played a role in Thursday’s collision.

The incident drew a significant emergency response as police officers and medical personnel worked to stabilize the child before transporting her to the hospital. Motorists traveling through the area experienced temporary traffic disruptions while emergency crews remained at the scene.

No additional injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Authorities have not announced whether the roadway was closed for an extended period or provided an estimated timeline for completing the investigation. It also remains unclear whether any witnesses have been asked to provide statements or if investigators are seeking additional information from the public.

The Spring Valley Police Department is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
