CHPE Pipeline Project to Close Northbound 9W on Mon June 16

June 12, 2025  •  By helpdesk1

Stony Point, NY – The CHPE TDI pipeline project will be affecting commuters in Stony Point on Monday. Road work will require the shutdown of the northbound lane of Route 9W heading over the the James A. Farley Bridge in Stony Point starting on Monday, June 16.

The detour will be Route 210 and Lowland Park. Robert D’Amelio, Mayor of West Haverstraw, informed the public on Thursday evening, and said “We understand the inconvenience that this is causing, and we thank you in advance for your continued patience.”

The Champlain Hudson Power Express® (CHPE) is a power transmission project designed to deliver renewable energy to New York State. The project is intended to support the state’s broader energy goals, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to job creation, and attracting investment. CHPE is aiming to provide low-cost renewable energy while being constructed primarily underground and underwater to minimize visual impact and environmental disruption.

Proponents of the project state that it is designed with resiliency and environmental safety in mind, positioning it as a component of New York’s evolving energy infrastructure.
