New City, NY – The Town of Clarkstown, in partnership with Congressman Mike Lawler, announced it has been awarded $315,000 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. The grant will support the town’s first-ever comprehensive townwide traffic safety study.
The study will produce a Safety Action Plan aimed at reducing accidents and improving traffic and pedestrian safety throughout Clarkstown. The initiative will use diverse data collection methods to analyze traffic incidents and identify high-priority areas for infrastructure and safety upgrades.
“This federal funding marks a major step forward in our commitment to the safety of all drivers and pedestrians in Clarkstown,” said Town Supervisor George Hoehmann. “We are especially grateful to Congressman Lawler for his continued support in securing these vital funds.”
In addition to data-driven mapping of crash-prone locations, the plan will engage the community through public workshops in each of the town’s four council wards, advisory committees, and online or mail-in surveys. The Planning and Traffic Board will develop a point-based system to prioritize short-, medium-, and long-term traffic solutions — ranging from improved signage to deeper infrastructural improvements.

The study is expected to begin in the coming months, with residents encouraged to participate in shaping the plan’s development.
