Haverstraw, NY – The Town of Haverstraw Police Department has announced increased patrols during the Thanksgiving holiday period, beginning on the evening of Wednesday, November 27, 2024. These patrols will focus on identifying and addressing impaired driving (DWI), speeding, aggressive driving, and distracted driving to ensure road safety during one of the busiest travel times of the year.
“Impaired and drunk driving remain significant threats to the safety of our roadways,” said Chief John J. Gould Jr. “Traffic enforcement is crucial to protecting our community and ensuring this holiday is a safe one for all.”
A Statewide Effort for Safer Roads
The increased patrols are part of a broader, statewide initiative aimed at preventing impaired driving and enhancing roadway safety. Law enforcement agencies across New York State will work in tandem to discourage, detect, and apprehend impaired drivers.
“We stand alongside our law enforcement partners throughout the County and State of New York in our shared mission to promote safe driving and prevent accidents,” Chief Gould emphasized.
Travel Safely This Thanksgiving
The department urges motorists to drive responsibly, remain alert, and prioritize safety as they travel for the holiday. By making safe driving a priority, the community can work together to reduce accidents and ensure a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving for everyone.
If you plan to consume alcohol or substances that impair your ability to drive, make arrangements for a designated driver or use alternative transportation options to prevent accidents. Stay alert and report any unsafe driving behaviors to authorities.
Let’s work together to ensure a safe and happy holiday season.
