The identity of the driver killed in tow truck accident has been revealed as 60-year-old Bronx resident Arnold Sanchez.
On Friday, Feb. 10, a two-vehicle crash occurred on northbound I-87 in the village of Nyack.
A disabled vehicle was on the left shoulder and partially in the left lane, and a New York State Thruway Wrecker was providing traffic control for it.
Congers Collision was in the process of loading the disabled vehicle when a 2017 Ram ProMaster cargo van traveling in the left lane rear-ended the Thruway Wrecker at a high speed.
The Wrecker was unoccupied, and its driver was assisting with the disabled vehicle at the time of the crash. Sanchez sustained serious injuries and was transported to Nyack Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No other injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing, and the state police were assisted on the scene by Troop T CVEU (Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit), Troop F BCI and CRU (Collision Reconstruction Unit), and Thruway Traffic Safety.
