Spring Valley, NY – A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged knifepoint robbery in Spring Valley in which police say approximately $200 was stolen from a man during an early-morning confrontation.
According to the Spring Valley Police Department, officers responded to the area near 28 South Main Street at approximately 1:22 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, following a report of suspicious activity.
When officers arrived, they located a man who told police he had been confronted by someone he knew. The victim alleged that the man displayed a knife and pressed it against his throat before punching him, causing him to fall to the ground.
Police said the suspect then took approximately $200 in cash from the victim’s wallet and fled the area.
During the investigation, the victim told officers that he had allegedly been robbed by the same person on a previous occasion. Police said the earlier incident had not been reported to authorities at the time it occurred.
Officers searched the surrounding area following the Aug. 14 incident and located a suspect identified as 26-year-old Jairo Duque-Agustin. Police described Duque-Agustin as undomiciled.
Duque-Agustin was taken into custody and initially charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the Aug. 14 incident. He was also charged with third-degree robbery in connection with the earlier alleged robbery reported by the victim.
Following his arrest, Duque-Agustin was arraigned in Spring Valley Justice Court before Judge Mellion. Bail was set at $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond or $75,000 partially secured bond. He was subsequently taken to the Rockland County Jail.
The case has since advanced in the Rockland County court system. According to the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Duque-Agustin was among seven defendants indicted during the county’s eighth grand jury term of 2026, which began July 24 and concluded Aug. 19.
The District Attorney’s Office listed Duque-Agustin as having been indicted on charges of first-degree robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. An indictment is a formal accusation that allows a criminal case to proceed and is not a finding of guilt.
First-degree robbery is among the most serious robbery charges under New York law and can apply under circumstances involving the use or threatened use of a dangerous instrument. The exact facts and circumstances underlying the charges will ultimately be addressed through the court process.
Authorities have not released the identity of the alleged victim or additional details regarding the previously unreported robbery.
