
NYACK, N.Y. — A man was hospitalized with serious injuries after being shot multiple times early Sunday morning near the Nyack Plaza apartment complex, according to authorities.
Orangetown police responded shortly after midnight to reports of gunfire in the area of Depew Avenue and South Franklin Street in the Village of Nyack. When officers arrived, they found a man lying in the grass near 403 Nyack Plaza with several gunshot wounds to his body.
Police officers provided first aid to the victim at the scene, including applying tourniquets to his arm and leg. Nyack Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedics also responded and provided additional medical treatment.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center for further treatment. Authorities described his injuries as serious but did not immediately release additional information about his condition.
The person responsible for the shooting fled before police arrived, according to authorities. As of the latest information released, no arrest had been announced.
The Rockland County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Clarkstown Police Department assisted at the scene as authorities investigated the shooting and searched for the person responsible.
Despite the suspect remaining at large, police said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and that there did not appear to be an ongoing threat to the general public. Authorities have not publicly released information about a possible motive or the circumstances that led to the shooting.
The shooting was one of multiple violent incidents reported in Rockland County overnight. However, authorities have not indicated that the separate incidents were connected.
The Orangetown Police Department Detective Bureau is continuing to investigate the Nyack shooting. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist investigators to contact the Orangetown Police Department at 845-359-3700.
