Monsey Fire Prompts Large Emergency Response

April 22, 2026  •  By Thomas Ossa

Monsey, NY — A fire on Remsen Avenue in Monsey prompted a significant emergency response on April 22, drawing multiple fire departments and emergency service units to the scene. Authorities confirmed that crews were dispatched after reports of a structure fire, though the exact time of the initial call has not yet been publicly detailed.

Firefighters from several neighboring jurisdictions responded to assist local crews, a standard practice in Rockland County when additional manpower or equipment is required. Upon arrival, emergency personnel worked to assess the situation and contain the fire, with units positioned along Remsen Avenue and nearby streets. The scale of the response suggested concerns about either the size of the fire or the potential for it to spread to adjacent structures.

At this time, officials have not released confirmed information regarding injuries, the extent of property damage, or the cause of the fire. Emergency responders remained on scene for an extended period as they continued suppression efforts and monitored for hotspots. Fire investigators are expected to evaluate the scene once conditions are deemed safe, which is a routine step in determining how the fire originated.

Traffic in the immediate area was impacted as emergency vehicles blocked portions of the roadway to allow crews to operate safely. Residents nearby were advised to avoid the area while the response was ongoing. In incidents of this nature, temporary road closures and detours are common to ensure both public safety and access for emergency personnel.

Mutual aid between departments is a key component of fire response in Rockland County, allowing communities to pool resources during emergencies. This coordinated approach helps ensure that sufficient personnel and specialized equipment are available when needed, particularly in situations where fires may escalate quickly or require prolonged operations.

Local officials have not yet indicated whether any residents were displaced as a result of the incident. Information regarding assistance, if required, is typically coordinated through local agencies or organizations such as the American Red Cross.

As of now, the situation remains under review, and additional details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses. Residents are encouraged to follow updates from local authorities for the most current information.
