A major water main break occurred today on North Main Street near New City Gardens in New City. The Clarkstown Police Department is currently on the scene managing the situation.
The break has resulted in a significant amount of water flooding the road, leading to a temporary road closure from Cavalry Drive to New Hempstead Road until further notice. The disruption is expected to cause delays and residents are advised to seek alternative routes if possible.
Veolia Water, the company responsible for water management in much of Rockland County NY, is responding to the emergency. In situations like this (according to Veolia’s website), Their primary role is to “improve operations, mitigate risk, improve infrastructure, and decrease operational costs, thereby ensuring a swift and efficient response to emergencies.”
This partnership model allows local governments to maintain ownership and control while Veolia handles the day-to-day operations and maintenance of infrastructure.
As of now, it is unclear how long the repairs will take, but Veolia is expected to work diligently to restore the water service as quickly as possible.
Residents are advised to stay tuned for further updates.
