Nyack, NY — On Wednesday, December 1 at 7:00 pm, the Nyack Library is pleased to welcome
Rockland County resident Lezlee Peterzell-Bellanich, wife, mother, author, and songwriter, as
she celebrates the release of her first book. Inspired by her family’s perseverance, Saved By a
Stranger demystifies organ transplantation, providing hope and information to patients and
those who love them.
Lezlee didn’t expect to become an advocate for organ transplantation. But when her husband
Capt. Rob’s battle with PSC, a rare autoimmune disease, led to cirrhosis, she found herself
navigating a new reality, eventually relocating with her family to the Mayo Clinic in Jackson,
Florida during the Pandemic, to wait for a compatible liver. While there, she met other patients
and their loved ones in similar situations and connected with people who’d already recovered
from their own transplants. She started to write about her experiences, eventually interviewing
the new friends she made at Mayo.
“Writing this book helped me get through this difficult time. I hope it encourages everyone to
sign up for organ donation,” says the author.
This in person event will be held in the Nyack Library’s Community Meeting Room. There will be
a presentation by the author, with time for a Q & A and book signing.
Copies of the book will be on sale courtesy of Pickwick Book Shop of Nyack and materials from Donate Life will be
available to take. Registration is required. To register, visit www.nyacklibrary.org or call 845-358-3370 ext. 214
