Orangeburg, N.Y. — A lottery ticket sold at an Orangeburg convenience store has turned one player into a guaranteed millionaire after matching enough numbers in the New York Lottery’s “Millionaire for Life” drawing to secure a prize worth at least $2.2 million.
The New York Lottery announced that a second-prize-winning ticket for the Monday, May 18 “Millionaire for Life” drawing was sold at Tiptop Stationery, also referred to in some reports as Tiptop Super Shoppe, located at the Orangetown Shopping Center at 5 Orangeburg Shopping Center in Orangeburg.
The winning ticket carries a prize of $100,000 per year for life. Under New York Lottery rules, the prize includes a guaranteed minimum payout of $2.2 million. Officials have not released the identity of the winner.
According to the New York Lottery, “Millionaire for Life” drawings are held nightly at approximately 11:15 p.m. Players select five numbers from a field of one through 58, along with a separate “Millionaire Ball” number from one through five.
Patch reported that the winning numbers drawn on May 18 were 1, 5, 20, 29 and 34, with a Millionaire Ball of 2.
The New York Lottery said prizes from draw games can generally be claimed up to one year from the date of the drawing.
The winning ticket has generated attention across Rockland County and the Hudson Valley, with several regional media outlets highlighting the unusually large guaranteed payout associated with the game’s second-prize tier. Unlike traditional lump-sum jackpot games, the “Millionaire for Life” format is designed to provide long-term annual payments to winners.
Tiptop Stationery, located in the busy Orangetown Shopping Center corridor, now joins a growing list of Hudson Valley retailers that have recently sold high-value lottery tickets. News of the winning ticket spread quickly online and through local television coverage following the Lottery announcement.
The New York Lottery remains one of the largest and highest-grossing lottery systems in North America. Revenue generated through lottery ticket sales contributes to education funding throughout New York State, according to Lottery officials. While major jackpot winners often receive widespread publicity, second-prize “for life” winners frequently attract attention because of the guaranteed long-term income attached to the prize structure.
Lottery officials also reminded residents that help is available for individuals struggling with gambling addiction. Resources are available through New York State’s HOPEline and related support services
