June 14 through July 7 in Stony Point, NY
(STONY POINT, NEW YORK) June 12, 2024 – Penguin Rep Theatre, under the leadership of Joe Brancato, founding Artistic Director, and Andrew M. Horn, Executive Director, proudly presents “Centennial Casting,” a comedy by Gino DiIorio and Nancy Bleemer. The show kicks off on Friday, June 14, in Stony Point, New York, and will run through July 7.
Following the sold-out run of “The Sabbath Girl,” which launched the nonprofit professional theatre’s 46th season, “Centennial Casting” promises another round of love, laughter, and mistaken identity. The story revolves around Vincent DiDonato and his co-workers who stumble upon a pile of headshots sent by actors who have mistakenly identified their metal casting shop as a theatrical casting agency. A hilarious romantic escapade ensues, with sparks flying in the most unexpected places.
Artistic Director Joe Brancato describes the play as “a hilarious romantic escapade as sparks sometimes fly in the most unexpected places.”
The cast includes Coryn Carson as Michele (Regional: “Like No One’s Watching”); Grace Experience as Edie (NY: “Grounded”; Regional: “Some People Hear Thunder,” “Midwives”); Mike Labbadia as Vincent (Off Broadway: “Arcadia,” “Winter’s Tale,” “Hedda Gabler”); Joshua Morgan as Carmine (Broadway: “Ain’t Too Proud,” “Les Miserables”); and Bill Phillips as Doo-Doo (Penguin: “After,” “The Savannah Disputation”).
Joe Brancato’s directorial credits include notable productions such as Michael McKeever’s “Daniel’s Husband,” which transferred from Penguin to Primary Stages at the Cherry Lane Theatre and then to the Westside Theatre/Upstairs. Other credits include “After” at 59E59 Theaters, Erasmus Fenn’s “Drop Dead Perfect” at Theatre at St. Clements, “The Devil’s Music: The Life & Blues of Bessie Smith,” and “Tryst” at the Promenade and Irish Rep.
Co-author Gino DiIorio is a New York City-based playwright with works produced nationwide, and Nancy Bleemer, co-author, has written “Providence,” a finalist in HBO’s New Playwrights Festival.
The design team for “Centennial Casting” includes Isaac Goldbaum (set), Kadee Mae (costumes), Todd Wren (lights), Idan Sassoni (sound), and Dana R. Weintraub (props). Michael Palmer serves as the production stage manager.
Performances will be held at Penguin’s home facility, a repurposed 1880s barn in historic Stony Point. The venue features comfortable upholstered seats, air conditioning, handicap accessibility, assistive hearing devices, and ample free parking. The theatre is described as “so close you can feel it,” with no seat more than 30 feet from the stage.
