Pomona, NY — On the morning of October 31, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Haverstraw Police Department responded to a report from the area Buckingham Court in Pomona. A male driver, who had been operating an oil delivery truck, was found trapped beneath the vehicle.
Upon their arrival, Haverstraw Police officers discovered the driver, conscious but injured, pinned under the truck. Emergency response units, including personnel from the local Fire Department and EMS, were on the scene promptly. They managed to extricate the driver, who was subsequently transported by Haverstraw Ambulance to Westchester Medical Center to receive medical care for numerous injuries.
UPDATE 11/1/24: The driver is reported to be in stable condition.
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident occurred shortly after the driver had completed an oil delivery in the area. While he was securing the oil hose at the rear of the vehicle, which had been parked on an incline, the truck began to roll backward. The driver was struck by the vehicle as it rolled down an embankment.
The cause of the truck’s unexpected movement is currently under investigation. The Department of Transportation states that it will conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle as part of the inquiry. The Haverstraw Detective Division is leading the investigation, receiving support from the Town of Ramapo Accident Reconstruction team to understand the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
