SUFFERN, NY – This April, prepare to be whisked away to the era of big bands and even bigger hair as Rockland Community College (RCC) announces the staging of the five-time Tony Award-nominated musical “Rock of Ages”. Presented by the RCC’s Visual and Performing Arts Department alongside the Campus Players, this high-octane production is set to rock the Cultural Arts Theatre from April 25th through 27th at 8:00 pm, with doors opening at 7:30 pm.
“Rock of Ages”, a musical that rocked Broadway stages from 2009 to 2015, is celebrated for its raucous blend of 1980s classic rock hits from legendary artists like Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, and more. This jukebox musical not only brings the big sounds of glam metal but also delivers a heart-pumping narrative set against the backdrop of Hollywood’s Sunset Strip.
Dr. Lester Sandres Rápalo, President of RCC, shares the campus’s enthusiasm, “Hosting ‘Rock of Ages’ is a tribute to an era of music that still echoes today. Our students will inject new life into this storied musical, offering audiences not just a performance but a resonant cultural experience.”
The narrative follows Drew, an aspiring rock god, and Sherrie, a girl with Hollywood dreams, as they battle to save their beloved Strip from being sanitized by corporate developers. This tale of dreamers promises to be a riveting ride filled with anthems that have defined a generation.
Christopher Plummer, Director of the Cultural Arts Center Theater at RCC, voices his excitement, “We’re set to ignite the stage with ‘Rock of Ages’. It’s more than just a musical; it’s an immersive homage to the rock anthems that became the soundtrack for many. We invite our community to join in this nostalgic journey.”
The production is a testament to RCC’s commitment to excellence in the arts, as seen in the variety of events hosted by its Award-Winning Visual and Performing Arts department. With a newly renovated 500-seat Cultural Arts Theatre, RCC continues to be a hub of artistic vibrancy in Rockland County.
