Rockland Inmate Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Corrections Officer, Getting 3 Years

May 14, 2024  •  By helpdesk1

In a recent courtroom development, Shaquille Gage, a 21-year-old inmate from Spring Valley, New York, has admitted guilt in a violent incident involving a Rockland County corrections officer. This plea was entered before Judge Kevin Russo on May 9, 2024, under a charge of second-degree assault.

The incident, which took place on April 7, 2024, escalated when Gage reportedly failed to follow verbal commands issued by the corrections staff at Rockland County Jail. His refusal to comply turned physical, culminating in Gage striking an officer in the face. The resultant physical confrontation culminated with injury to one of the officers involved, who later required medical treatment at a local hospital.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II condemned the inmate’s actions, emphasizing the importance of corrections officers in the judicial system. “The conduct of the defendant in this case is unacceptable and caused injuries to a corrections officer. Everyday corrections officers across the country play a vital role in our justice system, from helping rehabilitate prisoners to keeping them safe,” stated Walsh.

Currently, Gage remains in custody at the Rockland County Jail, with sentencing slated for July 10, 2024. He faces a three-year sentence in state prison following his guilty plea, reflecting the serious consequences of his actions against law enforcement personnel.
