Suffern, NY – Rockland County seniors, caregivers and family members gathered Wednesday at Rockland Community College for a free Senior Fair offering health services, government resources and information from local organizations.
The event, hosted by state Sen. Bill Weber, was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Eugene Levy Fieldhouse on the RCC campus at 145 College Road in Suffern. Admission was free and advance registration was not required.
More than 150 local organizations, government agencies, nonprofit groups and other vendors were expected to participate. Services and information available at the fair covered areas including health care, finances, public programs and services for older adults.
The Rockland County Department of Health also participated in the event with vaccination services.
County information listed flu and measles vaccinations at the RCC Fieldhouse during the fair. Flu vaccines were available for people six months and older, with a high-dose version offered to people 65 and older. The county said uninsured or underinsured residents could receive the flu vaccine at no charge, while people with Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance were asked to bring their insurance cards.
The county also offered MMR vaccinations for eligible residents who were not immune to measles. Those vaccinations were available without charge. No advance registration was required for the vaccination clinic, with registration conducted at the event.
Other services advertised for the fair included health screenings and blood-pressure checks. State government services included assistance with searches for unclaimed funds. Lunch was also offered while supplies lasted.
Local reporting from the event Wednesday confirmed that the fair was underway at RCC with services, screenings and informational resources available to attendees.
The Senior Fair is one of several locations being used by the Rockland County Department of Health for vaccination clinics this fall. Additional clinics are scheduled at the Robert Yeager Health Center in Pomona, West Haverstraw Community Center, the Allison-Parris County Office Building in New City and Rockland Plaza in Nanuet during October and November.
