Stony Point, NY – The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a complaint alleging possible ballot fraud connected to the June Republican primary election in Stony Point, according to Sheriff Louis Falco. The complaint involves Aidan Rowan, a 24-year-old Republican political operative and member of the Rockland County Republican Committee. Authorities have not announced any arrests or criminal charges, and the allegations have not been proven.
Falco confirmed that his office received a complaint and is examining the matter but did not provide details about the status or scope of the investigation. The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office has also acknowledged public inquiries involving Rowan and other individuals but emphasized that no arrests have been made and no criminal charges have been filed. Prosecutors said they would review the evidence and determine the appropriate course of action if the case is referred to their office.
The allegations center on an absentee ballot associated with the June 23 Republican primary for positions on the Stony Point Republican County Committee. According to information reported about the complaint, at least one former Stony Point resident who moved to New Jersey told investigators that she did not sign a ballot that was submitted bearing what was represented as her signature. That allegation remains under investigation and has not resulted in a criminal charge.
Rockland County Board of Elections records show Rowan was a candidate for a two-year position on the Republican County Committee representing Stony Point Election District 11. Four committee members were to be elected in that district. The official candidate list included Rowan along with Mary C. Rowan, Maeve A. Rowan, Andrew J. Smith and Patrick J. Walsh.
The investigation became public amid disagreements within the Stony Point Republican organization following the June primary. An anonymous letter circulated to county officials and others raised allegations involving Rowan and Clarkstown Town Clerk Lauren Marie Wohl. The letter made several additional claims about absentee ballot applications and ballots. Those claims have not been independently established, and authorities have not announced charges against Rowan, Wohl or anyone else in connection with the allegations.
Wohl has denied the accusations against her, describing them as baseless. Rowan declined to comment when contacted about the investigation.
The anonymous letter also alleged that U.S. Rep. Mike Lawler or other Republican officials had attempted to interfere with the investigation. No evidence supporting that allegation was presented in the letter. Lawler’s communications director, Scott Waters, rejected the accusation, calling it a smear without merit.
Rowan has been active in Rockland County Republican politics for several years. He previously ran for public office in Stony Point and has worked on Republican campaigns. He also served as a district intern for Lawler in 2023 and briefly served on the board of the former Hi Tor Animal Care Center. Rowan currently chairs the Rockland County Young Republicans and serves as an at-large member of the county Republican executive committee.
The Rockland County Board of Elections describes itself as a bipartisan agency responsible for administering elections in the county, including federal, state, county, town and village contests. The county’s 2026 primary election was held June 23 following an early-voting period from June 13 through June 21.
The Sheriff’s Office has not announced when its investigation may be completed or whether the matter will ultimately be referred to prosecutors. At this stage, the case remains an investigation into allegations, and no determination of criminal wrongdoing has been announced.
