Nyack, NY – In a time when personal safety is more critical than ever, women in Nyack are being invited to learn essential self-defense skills at the Nyack Center. Local self-defense instructor and registered nurse Tina Dawn, along with her team from LifeForce Self Defense, is offering an empowering opportunity for women to take control of their safety.
Thursday, September 26th, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, an introductory women’s self-defense class will be held at the Nyack Center (58 Depew Avenue) for a modest fee of $40. Open to all fitness levels and for ages 12 and up, this class is designed to equip women with the knowledge and skills needed to protect themselves in real-world situations.
Tina Dawn is passionate about bringing self-defense to women in the community. She explains, “Women just get it. We know we’re often not going to be the bigger or stronger one. But once we teach them the basics and they start moving, striking, and learning, they realize how capable they are with a little training. It’s empowering, and it’s incredible to be part of that transformation.”
What to Expect from the Class:
During this one-hour session, participants will be introduced to essential self-defense techniques, including:
- Reflexive Responses: How to convert instinctive reactions into effective defense moves.
- Awareness & Avoidance: Strategies for spotting potential threats before they escalate.
- Empowerment Through Action: Learning to move beyond the “freeze” reaction and respond decisively.
- Functional Movement Training: Techniques to improve strength and agility, both for self-defense and daily life.
- Protecting Loved Ones: Simple ways to practice safety drills with family members.
- Mental Preparedness: Building psychological readiness to respond under pressure.
Lynn Friedman, owner of Performance Health and Wellness in Pomona, praises the program, stating, “Tina and her team do a fantastic job. Every woman should take this class—it’s knowledge that could one day save your life.”
