“Our hearts break for the five innocent people slaughtered, and 25 others wounded, by a 22-year-old gunman who opened fire inside an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs over the weekend. I commend the brave club patrons that managed to subdue and restrain the gunman until police arrived; their actions were heroic and undoubtedly saved lives.
While police are still investigating whether this was a hate crime, this mass shooting is most certainly an attack on the safety and security of us all and we must stand united against the tragic gun violence being committed in this country. Every person has the right to be free from hatred, fear, and violence.
On behalf of the people of Rockland, I send my prayers and condolences to family and friends of the victims, along with the entire City of Colorado Springs, and wish the shooting survivors a quick and full recovery.”
