Stony Point, NY โ An incident occurred in Stony Point between 12:30 and 1:30 PM, when a local resident with deep family roots in the community was targeted by a scammer, via phone and in-person at the resident’s home.
The perpetrator – according to an eye witnesses – a male of Hispanic descent, attempted to deceive the resident by claiming her grandson had been in an automobile accident in Poughkeepsie, and needed thousands of dollars to purchase a car.
The scammer, driving a white vehicle, coaxed the resident to his car, but she became frightened, ran into her house, and promptly called the police. Fortunately, the grandson was not injured, and it was later confirmed that the scammer had no actual connection to the family.
Neighbors provided crucial assistance by capturing footage of the suspect’s vehicle on their security cameras, though the exact make and model have yet to be determined. Stony Point police are actively investigating the incident.
Residents of Rockland County are reminded to exercise caution in their daily activities and report any suspicious behavior to the Stony Point Police Department at (845) 786-2422
