Stony Point, NY – Undeterred by five inches of overnight snowfall, members of Rockland’s boldest charity once again took to the icy waters of the Hudson River, to raise money for local kids.
The Stony Point Seals gathered at the Stony Point Seawall on February 9, 2025, for their 26th annual Polar Plunge. With temperatures dipping and the landscape blanketed in fresh snow, the Seals’ commitment to their mission—raising funds for local children facing serious medical conditions—shone brighter than ever.
The event, a cherished community tradition, nearly faced cancellation due to the inclement weather. But the Seals, armed with determination, grit, and perhaps a little divine intervention, pressed on, transforming a wintry morning into a heartwarming display of community spirit and compassion.
The local highway department was out all night, clearing the area of snow. And although the traditional Babe’s ride was cancelled due to still-icy ground conditions, many familiar faces were in attendance – an event that in years past has attracted over a thousand attendees, and hundreds of plungers.
This year, the plunge supported four local children, each battling significant health challenges.
Alexander, 13, survived a tragic accident thanks to quick action from Good Samaritans and first responders. After multiple surgeries and a three-month ICU stay at Westchester Medical Center, Alex is now in rehab focusing on regaining his strength and mobility. A passionate athlete, Alex has a storied history in Little League and basketball, and his recovery journey is bolstered by his love for sports.
Jade, 6, was born with Down syndrome, a rare kidney disease, and an atrial septal defect. Her resilience is nothing short of inspiring as she navigates life with a ventilator, multiple therapies, and frequent hospital stays. Despite severe motor and speech deficits, Jade proudly communicates that she is “brave and strong.”
Noelle, a young girl with Short Bowel Syndrome, endures daily IV infusions and regular hospital visits. Her radiant joy, despite continuous medical hurdles, is a testament to her strength and the unwavering support of her family. Her love for music and playtime with her big sister highlight her bright spirit amidst ongoing health challenges.
Elizabeth Rojas, 6, defied the odds after being diagnosed with Trisomy 18, Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, and a host of other medical conditions. Her mother’s decision to continue the pregnancy, despite dire medical advice, has led to years of dedicated care. Elizabeth’s days are filled with therapies and treatments, but also the love and commitment of her family.
Despite the chilling waters and snow-covered ground, participants and supporters turned out nonetheless, their enthusiasm warming the cold winter air. The funds raised will directly support the medical needs and quality of life improvements for these four brave children.
For those who couldn’t attend but wish to contribute, donations can be made through the Stony Point Seals’ official website.
As the Seals continue to dive into frigid waters year after year, they remind us that true warmth comes not from the sun, but from the heart of a community united for a cause.
