Yesterday was the fourth anniversary of the fatal Spring Valley fire that took the lives of a Spring Valley Firefighter and the resident of the adult home he was trying to save. 35 year-old Jared Lloyd was a 15-year veteran of Spring Valley’s Columbians Fire Engine Company Number One and was one of the first on-scene of the fire that leveled the “Evergreen Court Home for Adults” assisted-living facility. Oliver Hueston, a resident of the home, was also killed. Rabbi Nathaniel Sommer and his son, Aaron, pleaded guilty to charges in connection with the blaze. Both were sentenced to probation after admitting they used a blowtorch and coals to prepare the facility’s kitchen for Passover.
