STONY POINT, NY – Your home is your castle, and just like a medieval fortress, it needs layers of defense to deter attackers.
This concept, known in the security world as “concentric rings of security,” involves implementing multiple deterrents to make your home a less attractive target. To remember this, let’s use a well-known phrase – something that we hear often, and many of us can relate to: “Lights, camera, action”.
Here are 3 key ways to make your home a hard target for criminals: Lights, Camera, Action!
Lights: Install fixed exterior lighting and motion sensor lights. Well-lit interiors with timers for when you’re away can also deter crime.
Camera: Consider doorbell cameras to identify visitors and strategically placed surveillance cameras (wired or solar-powered with smartphone app access) to monitor your property.
Action: Take a chance, and be a “nosy neighbor”! Get to know and trust your neighbors. Communicate with those you trust and keep an eye on each other’s homes.
The good news? All of these methods are readily available and relatively inexpensive. The “nosy neighbor” approach even costs nothing but a little kindness!
While there’s no foolproof security system, these steps can significantly deter criminals.
For now, take a proactive approach! Look around your home and identify areas where you can improve security. Small steps, implemented gradually, can transform your home into a secure fortress. Remember, the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’ve taken steps to secure your home is priceless! With these measures in place, you’ll sleep better, I certainly do.
