New City, NY — In recognition of Fair Housing Month and Community Development Week, Rockland County will host its third annual Housing Forum on Friday, April 25 at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona. Organized by County Executive Ed Day and Community Development Director Alexandra Obremski, the event brings together a diverse group of stakeholders to explore strategies for unlocking the county’s housing potential.
The forum will feature a keynote address by Commissioner/CEO RuthAnne Visnauskas of New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), and will include a full day of panel discussions covering key housing issues:
- Brownfields 101: A case study with insights from NJIT, NYS DEC, NYS DOS, and Kearney Realty and Development Group
- Lead Hazard Remediation and the NYS Rental Registry: An overview of a new initiative presented by NYS DOH, NYS HCR, and Rockland County’s Health Department
- Grayfields – Adaptive Reuse of Underutilized Spaces: Featuring Pattern for Progress and Cuddy & Feder LLP
- The Current State of Fair Housing: A CLE-accredited session by NYS HCR and NYS Division of Human Rights (1.5 credits)
- Federal and State Housing Initiatives: Presented by NYU’s Furman Center
- Housing and the Rockland County Comprehensive Plan: A look at “Envision Rockland” with BFJ Planning
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, in place since 1975, continues to support local governments in providing affordable housing and economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rockland County Fire Training Center, 35 Firemen’s Memorial Drive, Pomona. The forum is designed for developers, real estate professionals, municipal and community leaders, and nonprofit organizations.
