Haverstraw, NY -Three Rockland County residents are facing multiple weapons charges after Haverstraw police recovered a loaded firearm during a traffic stop in the Village of West Haverstraw early Sunday morning.
According to the Haverstraw Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop at approximately 12:45 a.m. on July 26 after observing a vehicle commit a traffic violation on Route 9W. During the course of the investigation, officers discovered a loaded firearm inside the vehicle.
Police said the investigation determined that the three occupants of the vehicle were illegally in possession of the weapon. All three individuals were taken into custody without incident and transported to Haverstraw Police Headquarters for processing.
Authorities identified the defendants as Tyler Riddle, 22, of Garnerville; Jaydan Lagredelle, 24, of Nanuet; and Daniel Lans, 23, of Spring Valley.
Each of the three men has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C felony; Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree involving an ammunition feeding device, a Class D felony; and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
Following their arrests, the defendants were arraigned in the Village of West Haverstraw Justice Court. The court released all three on their own recognizance pending future court appearances.
Under New York law, release on recognizance allows a defendant to remain out of custody while a criminal case proceeds through the court system, based on a promise to return for all scheduled court appearances.
The Haverstraw Police Department said the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted with the investigation.
Police have not released additional information regarding the origin of the firearm, the circumstances that led to its alleged possession, or whether investigators believe the weapon had been used in connection with any other criminal activity. Authorities also have not indicated whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
As with all criminal cases, the charges filed against the defendants are allegations. Each individual is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
