Valentine Indicted in Sex Abuse of Valley Cottage Boy

July 9, 2025  •  By helpdesk1

New City, NY – James Valentine, 57, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, has been indicted on charges related to the sexual abuse of a male child over several years. Valentine has been charged with one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree, a class D violent felony under New York Penal Law (PL. Sec. 130.80. (1)(b)).

According to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh, II, the alleged abuse took place between 2011 and 2016, when the child was between the ages of 8 and 12, at Valentine’s former residence in Valley Cottage, New York. Valentine faces up to seven years in state prison if convicted.

“This indictment represents a significant step forward in holding accountable those who exploit and harm children,” said Walsh. “We will continue to work closely with law enforcement to ensure that victims have a voice and justice is served.”

The investigation into the case is being conducted by the New York State Police, with support from the District Attorney’s Office Special Victims Unit. The case is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to pursue any additional evidence or potential victims.

Valentine is scheduled to be arraigned before Honorable Kevin F. Russo of the Rockland County Court on July 10, 2025, at 9:30 AM. The case is being prosecuted by Supervising Assistant District Attorney Gerard M. Damiani III.

As with all criminal cases, the defendant is entitled to a fair trial and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office encourages anyone with additional information or who may have been affected by similar incidents to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
