The future of the Hi-Tor animal care center could be up to the town’s five supervisors as they are now looking for a new home for the beleaguered shelter. Over the summer they and the legislature balked at moving forward on rebuilding the current shelter in Pomona as costs more than doubled since the project was first conceived. Rockland County Executive Ed Day told “The Morning Show” earlier this month that the supervisors felt it was better to go in a different direction…
Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips also heads up the solid waste management agency, Rockland Green, and he told “The Morning Show” last week they could also end up running things at a new shelter. Phillips says the county’s contract with the current Hi-Tor management concludes at the end of the year…
Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny told “The Morning Show” last week that it’s all still a work in progress…
Phillips says one potential location is by the Rockland Green facilities in Hillburn, and another is in Haverstraw, near the water treatment facility. Both facilities, he said, are far enough from residential neighborhoods and wouldn’t have any other neighbors near them to disrupt any animals that would be cared for.
